"Hoops For
Hope" coming August 15th
AREA – Okaloosa and Walton county law enforcement officers will go head to head on the hard-court Tuesday, August 15th to find out not who can rustle up the most criminals, but the most points. It is a basketball competition at 6 p.m. at the Okaloosa-Walton College gymnasium in Niceville. “Hoops for Hope” is an event Shelter House, Inc. created to raise awareness about domestic violence and the essential services they provide to victims of domestic violence in both Okaloosa and Walton counties.
“This is the third year the Law Enforcement Agencies of Okaloosa and Walton County have donated their time practicing and playing in this event.” said Kris Cash, event organizer and Shelter House Board Member. Cash said “These officers believe in the mission of Shelter House and it is a fun way to raise awareness about domestic violence in our communities.”
The basketball game between Okaloosa and Walton law enforcement officers will use high school rules of time, playing four quarters that will run for eight minutes each. There will be a 20-30 minute halftime. Please come to the OWC Gym on Tuesday, August 15th, at 6pm and support your local law enforcement teams as they compete in this worthwhile competition. “The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office basketball team is enthusiastic about getting back on the court and supporting Shelter House” said Major Larry Ashley with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. Captain Danny Glidewell of Walton County Sheriff’s Office said “We are always happy to support the Shelter House and its work and really are looking forward to the challenge of playing Okaloosa County." Admission to “Hoops for Hope” is FREE.
