Why Use The Escape Button?

The Escape button in the upper left corner of all pages within our web site will take users immediately to Google.com so that an abuser will not see their victim on the Shelter House web site.

Your abuser may monitor your Internet use and may be able to view your computer activity. It is advisable to "delete the cookies" and "clear the history" from your computer.

Within your browser, click on the "Tools" menu option and then select the "Internet Options" and then click on the "Delete Cookies". Next, in the same window, click on the "Clear History" button. This will clear all of the prior web site files from your computer. It is also advisable to double click on your Recycle Bin (icon on the desktop) and delete all of the files deleted.

If you have reason to believe that your computer is not secure, you may wish to use a computer in another location that your abuser does not have access to. The local libraries also have computers accessible to residents.
